Best Places to Go Fishing in Eastern Washington

OVERVIEW

With the springtime re-opening of the campground, Alta Lake offers more opportunities for outdoor adventure in the Okanogan! This 174-acre gem has rebounded from its 2016 wildfire with new greenery and stunning wildflowers. The park is once again a favorite destination for vacationing families as well as area golfers, boaters, and hikers - all of whom come to absorb its friendly social ambiance and surrounding scenery.

FISHING & LAKE NOTES

With a 60 foot dock and more fish than you can shake a stick at - this lake is a favorite among our local anglers. Enjoy exploring the fishing holes at each corner of this beautiful destination lake.

Chances of catching rainbow and kokanee do hold up very well throughout the summer months. Check out the boat launch facilities at the State Park or the gravel launch and cabins hosted at the private resort.

HIKE DESCRIPTION

Repaired by a volunteer crew from the Washington Trails Association (WTA) in 2016, 2 miles of easy hiking on well-established trails are found within the park boundaries or, for a more rigorous challenge, follow the moderate to steep trail (Alta Lake Ridge Trail) that winds its way up to Billy Goat Mountain on the western boundary of the park (785’ elevation gain). Informal trails allow for exploration and provide great views.

Bring a swimsuit for a dip in the lake after your hike. If it gets breezy, look for windsurfers out on the water - or give it a try yourself!

Driving Directions

Head west from Pateros on US 153 for 2 miles and look for Alta State Park Road on the south side (left) of the road and follow signs to the park entrance.
